Buying worm castings in Nashville just got a whole lot easier. We are very excited to be offering worm castings, also known as vermicompost, in bulk to Nashville, Tennessee and surrounding areas.
You already know that earthworms are good for soil making, it rich and fertile.
Now, researchers at Ohio State University have found that including just 10-20 percent worm compost (by volume) in a commercial peat-based potting mix can boost the growth rate of marigolds, bachelor's-buttons, tomatoes, and peppers by up to 40 percent over that of plants grown in unamended soil.
Ohio State horticulture professor, Jim Metzger, also said: "Even when we provided all plants with enough fertilizer for "optimum" growth, plants still grew better when the soil was amended with the worm compost."
Ohio State also stated that even small substitutions of vermicomposts into plant growth media and soil can produce dramatic increases in germination, growth, flowering and yields of crops, independent of their nutrient supply.
Worm castings make the best natural potting soil, soil amendment, and fertilizer.
Here at Greathouse, we want to encourage our customers to use organic worm castings as fertilizer to top dress beds and turf. This is a totally green alternative to using chemical fertilizers.
