1. When is the best time of year to do a landscape installation? 2. How much does it cost to have my site maintained? 3. Can I stop by your nursery and buy plants to install myself? 4. I need someone to help me with a planting plan...do you do that? 5. Do you install residential Landscapes? When is the best time of year to do a landscape installation? It is true that Fall and Spring are generally good times to plant. Plants that have been dug from nurseries in the fall are generally dormant and less likely to stress from transplanting. The dormant season allows the plant's root structure to grow and become established before energy is expended in the Spring and Summer to produce top growth. Regularly scheduled watering in the winter months is still necessary to help plants survive. Some definition of "Fall" is needed as it relates to the landscape industry. The digging season associated with "Fall" has more to do with the dropping of leaves and moisture content of the ground than a specific date on the calendar. Rainy periods in the fall make digging and transport of plants from the fields difficult...conversely, dry periods in the fall make digging difficult because it becomes more difficult to keep soil undisturbed around root balls. When planting in the summer months, additional care and attention will be required to insure plant viability. Plants that are to be installed in the summer should be dug from the nurseries early, "healed in" to protect roots from drying out, and carefully monitored from the time of installation throughout the warmer months. How much does it cost to have my site maintained? First of all, ask yourself what is peace of mind worth to you... to know that you will have a well trained and drug free crew to show up on a reliable schedule, bring with them over $ 40,000 worth of professional equipment...and know that the reputation of a 25 year old company stands behind their work? Our clients attest to the fact...there is value built into our services! Greathouse Landscape Company looks at each site to match the specific needs of the client with a maintenance program that will protect the investment in landscape materials and the image that the client wishes to project. For large complex sites with considerable detail that may mean several thousand dollars a month...for others whose scope is smaller in size and detail, considerably less. For over twenty years Greathouse has lead in the use of computer systems for accurate calculation of landscape maintenance budgets. Following an on-site inspection and measurement of turf areas, shrub beds, hardscapes, and edges... all data is computed to determine everything from how much fertilizer, how much weed control, how much mowing time, how much pruning time...and more! From that computer program (as well as a comparison with our experience on similar sites) we can determine the monthly maintenance budget. All clients receive a written description of the services to be performed along with an annual budget amount that is divided equally over the 12 month term of the contract. We are often asked "how much is it to just cut my grass?"...our experience has taught us that the success of a landscape maintenance program goes far beyond mowing... it is a commitment to a quality "look" that requires reliable and consistent care of the entire landscape. For the most part, the plants that we hold in our nursery have been specially ordered for a specific landscape project. We shop the entire United States to have quality plants for landscape contracts and rarely order large quantities of extra stock for inventory. If you are looking for a particular specimen plant, we may be able to help you locate it from one of our suppliers and have it delivered to our nursery for you to pick up. Give us a call! Please keep in mind that we are a landscape contractor and not a retail garden center. Our organization's primary business focus is to do complete landscape installations and maintenance programs. Occasionally we try to clear our nursery of any leftover plant inventory...and we have a sale! If you would like to be notified of that sale, please sign our guest book and let us know of your interest. I need someone to help me with a planting plan...do you do that? When you call Greathouse at 615-350-8030, ask for Lee at ext. 11. Initial Contact and Onsite Consultation will be scheduled at a convenient time during the work week. There is no charge for this initial meeting or the assessment of your project. That assessment will include a written summary of the design features and a quotation of costs to prepare a drawing of your planting scheme. Planting Plans are prepared that will indicate specific locations, quantities, and sizes of plants to be included in your project. When plans are complete, you will receive two copies of the plan as well as an itemized proposal for purchasing the landscape installation. Payment for plans is due when you receive your planting plan. Follow-up Consultation allows you the opportunity to discuss the plan, ask questions, and make changes in the plan. Unless major alterations to the plan are made, no additional drawing charges will be incurred. Contract Approval requires your signature on the proposal form and a deposit of 1/3rd of the contract amount. Installation Scheduling will depend upon several factors: availability of your site, availability of materials, weather conditions, installation of irrigation (or other related trade contracts), and existing project load. Do you install residential Landscapes? If there is one question that we are asked the most, it is probably this. Our company was built on performing any size job required. In addition to the larger jobs that we are recognized for we have crews that specialize in installing residential landscapes. We know that these clients require special attention to detail and we have been providing this service for over 25 years.
